The judicious use of animitated graphics or Flash animations can add visual interest and interactivity to a web site. The key word is "judicious."
One of the most common mistakes people make with their websites is to create elaborate Flash animations on a splash page. This may look cool, but it really just creates a barrier to your potential customers. They are coming to your site to learn about your products and services, not to view Flash animations. One of the most commonly clicked links on the web is "Skip Intro."
So are we anti-Flash? Not at all. Flash is an exciting technology and can be a great addition to a site when use properly. Some excellent uses of Flash technology include interactive slideshows, guided tours, product demos and the like.
Here is an example of a Flash animation for a client who wanted a bit of animation to spice up a calendar feature on their site.
